Extension to town hall will go ahead.
Luskville, July 2, 2009.
Not enough voters signed the register today to require a referendum to be held on building an extension to the Municipality of Pontiac’s town hall. A bylaw to borrow $350,000 was passed at the June 9th meeting, the remaining $200,000 to come from the surplus. The project has been worked on for some time: the architect was selected in April 2008, after several proposals to use other buildings had been studied.

A public notice was sent to ratepayers on June 18, informing them that they could request a referendum on this bylaw by signing the register today. If 384 people signed the register a referendum would have to be held.

Despite flyers delivered today with daily newspapers and stuck on community mailboxes, saying “Let’s stop the increase in taxes, make your opinion count,” only 276 signatures were received, insufficient to force a referendum.
